Since the start of the deadly pandemic, The Light of the World congregation in Chichicastenango, Guatemala (La Luz del Mundo) has been a lifeline for the residents of its local community. Members of the congregation have provided enormous support to local families affected by COVID-19.
To show their appreciation, Chichicastenango’s mayor recently presented Evangelist Pastor José Alfredo Padilla Vásques with an award for social and cultural contributions made by The Light of the World congregation to the local community. The pastor accepted the award on behalf of the congregation.
“This is the result of the work and encouragement that the members of the congregation receive to be better citizens, in solidarity with society and respectful of the laws, always working toward improving their communities and the social environment around them,” said Padilla Vásques, who thanked the mayor and his administration for the warm welcome.
The community service in Guatemala is part of the Community Outreach initiatives that The Light of the World congregations conduct in the majority of the countries where they are present. Embodied within its civic principle, one of The Light of The World’s constant goals is to find solutions to problems while improving the living conditions of all people worldwide.
